On Brookhaven's mind: Should high schools offer rehab?

Last night William Floyd School District revealed plans to start a substance abuse clinic at its high school. The center, which would be the first of its kind in the state, would be run free of charge by a Huntington nonprofit. 

"It's time to bring these services to the community," said Robert Vecchio, school board president. "We know that needs are being unmet in our area in particular. It's about accessing services."

Our readers are much more mixed in their opinion.

Commentor newsdaysuxs praised the plan as a great move for students:

"rehab works, and this program will save lives. Getting kids to recognize that they have a problem early on is a great thing. Finally, a school district facing the drug abuse problem head on."

Commentor shutrbugam06, however, thought the high school should stick to teaching:

"maybe reahab does work, but, WHEN DID IT BECOME THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SCHOOL TO REHAB STUDENTS? It is their responsibility to educate them.
