On May 5, 1945, a 16-year-old Viennese girl now living in Nassau was liberated from the Nazi-run Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria by U.S. soldiers, some of whom arrived in a swift though gangly armored car known as an M8 Greyhound.

On Wednesday, the 65th anniversary of her liberation, the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale is installing a working Greyhound into its exhibit.

The camp survivor, Thea Gotesmann Rumstein, will be on hand to tell her story, as will some of the soldiers who liberated the camp.

The museum will also distribute a comic strip that tells the story of the liberation by graphic designer and illustrator Jim Hart.
