On redistricting, LIA backs Skelos plan
In the state redistricting scrap, the Long Island Association has sided with Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre), backing his proposal for a statewide vote next year on a constitutional amendment to create a nonpartisan commission aimed at the 2020 census -- rather than legislation that would take effect sooner. After the LIA board of directors voted on the position, Kevin Law, the organization's president and CEO, said: "Let's do it right and avoid years of litigation to determine if creating such a commission without voter approval is constitutional."
