One-stop map to North Fork venues

Looking for a place to go on the North Fork? A hand-drawn map of restaurants, vineyards, accommodations, retail shops, real estate and other services from Riverhead to Orient Point will be available for free at bed-and-breakfasts, restaurants and chambers of commerce in August.

Resort Maps of Vermont, a publisher of advertising maps in the Northeast, has named Marilyn Holstein owner of the map for the Island's North Fork. Holstein, owner of North Fork Media Llc, an advertising/marketing company in Peconic, said the map will have space for 84 spots. Profits for her, she said, come from selling ads. To get on the map, an establishment needs to buy an ad. And unlike others, this map will encompass an assortment of venues on the North Fork rather than just a few.

"This is going to be a one-stop map," Holstein said.

She said Resort Maps representatives recently spent about four days on the North Fork taking photographs, which will be taken back to the company's offices. "They are going to be meticulously hand-drawn," she said. Holstein said she got the idea to apply to become the North Fork map owner after a visit to Newport, R.I.

"I found this [map] was indispensable," she said.
