Municipal historians, records managers, libraries, historical societies, genealogical societies, museums, and historic site managers in Orange County have until March 15 to apply for the county's Historic Grant Program, which was announced in January.

"Applicants are encouraged to complete and submit their paperwork before March 15 for consideration," County Historian Cornelia W. Bush said in a county news release Tuesday. "Grants may be used to fund the preservation of historic structures and sites, as well as management and development for collections of archives and artifacts, noting that commemorations may also be eligible."

Grant applications are available online by visiting the county historian's office section of the Orange County website where links to the downloadable application packet have been provided or by calling 845-291-2388.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 15, and the funds will be awarded on or before May 30.

The historic grants program's purpose is to support Orange County's historical community in preserving and promoting its objects of an historical character.
