Ortega, Agostino lead Middle Country girls lacrosse
Nikki Ortega had four goals and Jenna Agostino added a goal and four assists as Middle Country topped West Islip, 13-11, Wednesday in Suffolk Division I girls lacrosse.
Loren Ziegler scored her fourth goal of the game with 10:07 left to pull West Islip (10-2) within 11-10. But Abigail Cavallo scored off a feed from Heather Ferchland two minutes later to put Middle Country (9-3) up 12-10. Jessica Kravitz added a goal with 6:18 left to extend Middle Country's lead to 13-10. Brittany Choplain made 22 saves in the win. Northport 16, Half Hollow Hills 6: Paige Bonomi had five goals and three assists to lead Northport (14-0) in Division I.Mineola 14, Calhoun 6: Kerry Medlock (six goals) and Samantha Stavish totaled 10 goals and three assists to lead Mineola (7-1) in a Nassau Conference I-II crossover.Locust Valley 13, Baldwin 11: Taylor Bleistein had four goals and two assists and Aubrey Cannone added three goals and four assists for Locust Valley (12-2) in Conference III.Island Trees 12, Clarke 10: Bridget Vilbig had three goals and one assist to lead Island Trees (8-1) in Conference IV. Emily Lucas added five goals in the winning effort. Maggie Palmer led the way for Clarke with six goals.Carey 12, Wheatley 7: Daina Cantanese (six) and Amanda Giarrizzo totaled 11 goals to lead Carey (8-4 Conference V). Cantanese scored her fourth goal of the game with 19:52 left to give Carey an 8-5 lead. Cantanese added an assist and Giarrizzo had two assists. Liz Garabedian had 11 saves in the win.Sewanhaka 20, Glen Cove 16: Sophomore Taylor Vasallo scored a career-high seven goals to lead Sewanhaka (10-2) in Conference V. Gabby Ford added five goals and two assists and sophomore Elissa Sanci made a career-high 13 saves.Kellenberg 13, Our Lady of Mercy 12: Katie Cunningham (four) and Kaitlin McLaughlin totaled seven goals for Kellenberg (3-4 CHSAA), which held on after taking an 11-5 halftime lead.
Portledge 15, Sacred Heart (NYC) 5: Addie Reilly had five goals and six assists and Robyn Worrall had three goals and two assists to lead Portledge (12-2) in NYSAIS.Long Island Lutheran 12, Holy Child (Westchester) 11: Ashleigh Alex (five goals) scored with eight minutes left to give Lutheran (11-4) a 12-8 lead in non-league.
