After nearly 35 years of operation, Suffolk Off-Track Betting Corp.’s Riverhead branch will close for good on Sunday, the day after this year’s Kentucky Derby.

The Riverhead branch, located on Route 58, opened in July 1975, Suffolk OTB’s second year of operation, and is the third branch to be shuttered since OTB filed for bankruptcy in March. The other branches closed were in Huntington Station and Southampton.

OTB spokeswoman Deborah Pfeiffer said the branch is being closed because it is a low performer and will result in the layoff of one manager and the relocation of other staff.

She said customers will have to use a Qwik-Bet location at CB’s Bar and Grill in Hampton Bays or the OTB branch in Shirley, or start an Internet account.

The closing leaves Suffolk OTB with nine branches.
