Oyster Bay awards contract for fueling facility
The Town of Oyster Bay has awarded a contract for construction of a compressed natural gas fueling facility at its public works complex after receiving a $5-million federal grant for the fueling station and conversion of 44 diesel sanitation trucks to CNG.
The contract went to Engineered Energy Solutions of Port Jefferson.
A second federal grant of $271,980 will allow conversion of five more sanitation trucks to CNG.
Town Supervisor John Venditto said CNG is domestically produced, reducing dependence on foreign oil.
The truck conversions will reduce the town’s petroleum use by 264,000 gallons per year, he said, as well as cut greenhouse gas emissions by 27 percent and eliminate 67,130 pounds of pollutants annually.
