Oyster Bay: Home repair help for needy

Low- and moderate-income senior citizens or those with physical challenges may be able to receive help for needed home repairs from the Town of Oyster Bay.

The town's Community Development Block Grant Program, which is administered by the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs, provides funding to eligible residents of unincorporated communities throughout the town.

“Among the many possibilities, physically challenged homeowners can have ramps built, stair glides installed, and doors widened to help enhance their freedom and mobility at home,” Supervisor John Venditto said in a news release. “Meanwhile, senior citizens can benefit from a wide variety of essential home repairs, including new roofs, oil or gas burners, new windows and updated plumbing and electrical systems.”

Eligible homeowners must be 60 years of age or older, or physically challenged, and own and occupy their own home. Applicants must meet federal income guidelines. For more information, homeowners can call the Town Community Development Office at 516-624-6170 or 516-624-6177.
