The proposed map for a blueway nautical trail along Oyster Bay Town’s northern shoreline will be unveiled at a meeting on March 27.

The session, sponsored by the town, the environmental group Friends of the Bay and the Hempstead Harbor Protection Committee will be held at 6 p.m. at the Friends of the Bay office at Suite 2, 111 South St., Oyster Bay.

The blueways trail will designate a route for paddlers and sailors from North Hempstead to Huntington waters and outline points of interest and amenities along the way.

In 2010 the town, partnering with the two other organizations, received a $76,250 matching grant through the New York State Environmental Protection Fund’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program for planning the trail. It will begin in Hempstead Harbor, travel along Long Island Sound and through Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbors. The first part of the project consisted of studying the waterways and amenities along the shores.

The meeting will provide residents with an opportunity to comment on the draft blueway trail map.
