The Town of Oyster Bay is seeking volunteers for a community cleanup Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon at Tobay Beach and Joseph J. Saladino Memorial Marina.
Sponsored by the WAKE UP organization (Waterways Adopted Keep Environments Undamaged and Protected), the cleanup will be coordinated by the town’s Department of Environmental Resources and the U.S. Power Squadrons’ Jones Beach unit. Trash bags will be provided, but volunteers must bring their own work gloves.
Officials said that the majority of litter on the beach comes from land-based sources, such as poorly maintained garbage bins and storm runoff.
Anyone interested in participating may call 516-677-5711.
