The Town of Oyster Bay Thursday received $1.2 million in federal funds to go toward infrastructure improvement, economic planning, youth and senior citizen programming, and a variety of other projects.

Nearly $870,000 of the Community Development Block Grant, federal entitlement funding awarded to the town yesterday by Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, has been allocated for infrastructure improvements such as increasing energy efficiency and eliminating code violations and hazardous conditions.

Organizations such as the Hicksville Teen Council Inc., the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center Inc., the LI Wheelchair Club and Centro Cultural Hispano de Oyster Bay will also receive a share of the grant money.

Town Supervisor John Venditto in a statement said the grant provides “much-needed funding for some very worthwhile community organizations.”

The town last year was awarded $1.6 million in Community Development Block Grant funds, town spokeswoman Phyllis Barry said.
