Pacers' Price needs surgery after injuring knee

Indiana Pacers guard A.J. Price injured his left knee during a celebrity basketball game at Half Hollow Hills West High School on Saturday night and will have surgery later this week. Price, a two-time Suffolk County Player of the Year from Amityville, told the Indianapolis Star that he was "making a move to the basket and it happened."

EMTs at the event, the Escalade High School Classic and Celebrity Basketball Game, tended to Price and took him to the hospital.

"It's something with my kneecap," Price said. "I'm going to be out a few months."

NBA training camps open the first week of October. One concerning issue for Price is that his contract, with a salary of $726,000, is not guaranteed for next season.

Price was a second-round pick by the Pacers in last year's NBA draft. He appeared in 56 games this season with Indiana and averaged 7.3 points in 15.4 minutes per game.

The event was put together by streetball legend Troy "Escalade" Jackson (brother of former NBA guard and current ABC-ESPN analyst Mark Jackson).
