Regarding the letter "Many ways to trim school costs" [March 17], it is correct that children who are sent to private or parochial schools do save districts money, but not just for the reason given.

I am a resident of the Levittown School District, and chose to send my son to parochial high school. While it is true that busing a student costs a few hundred dollars annually, the fact is, my husband and I pay full property taxes to a district we chose not to use. In return for the thousands of dollars we pay, we get only books and bus transportation.

We pay the same amount in school taxes as those who have several children in district schools. The district gets the better deal on this.
