If you receive a shiny new bicycle for the holidays this year, the Congregational Church of Patchogue would like to take your old cruiser off your hands.

The church runs the Workers Without Wheels program, which donates bicycles to people without cars or access to mass transportation to commute to their jobs.

The secular and free program runs year-round, but the winter holidays tend to be opportune for soliciting donations, said the Rev. Dwight Lee Wolter.

“People get a lot of bikes for Christmas whether they ride them or not,” Wolter said. “Most of the bikes we got were out of the garage.”

To date, the program has distributed about a hundred bicycles to local workers, he said.

The program needs bikes that are medium or adult-sized and in good working order, Wolter said.

Interested donors may call 631-475-1235 to arrange a time for drop-off at the church, located at 95 E. Main St. in Patchogue.
