Patchogue church holds housing seminar

It’s not your typical homeowner’s seminar that the Congregational Church of Patchogue is hosting Tuesday night.

Instead of focusing only on buying a home, the panel will have a discussion about how a community can thrive with both renters and resident homeowners.

“The idea isn’t necessarily that you have to choose between people who are going to be homeowners, or if it’s going to be renters,” said the Rev. Dwight Wolter, pastor of the church. “There’s a mix.”

The seminar, “From Renter to Owner, From Owner to Renter,” will feature Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri, representatives from Tritec Corp. — the developer behind the revitalization of Patchogue’s downtown — a real estate attorney, a real estate agent, representatives from banks and mortgage companies, and members of the Long Island Housing Partnership and the Long Island Council of Churches.

“Whether you are a renter or you are an owner, housing on Long Island is a big problem,” Wolter said.

A Spanish language translator will be available, he said. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, at 95 E. Main St.
