Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts roof replacement estimated at $360G

The Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts — one of the village’s biggest attractions and revenue generators — needs a roof replacement due to leaking, but village trustees say the estimated $360,000 repair costs are too expensive.

Trustee Jack Krieger said he expects the repair projections to largely decrease once contract bids for the repair project are sent out and awarded in the upcoming weeks.

“We want something that will last a long time and be dependable,” he said.

For months, the 11,000-square-foot roof has leaked water, sometimes inconveniencing residents and visitors during shows, the trustee said last week.

During a presentation at a village board meeting last week, Alexander Badalamenti, principal of Baldassano Architecture, said he looked at several options before settling on a high-quality standing seam metal roof for $360,000.

The building “is failing” and the projected costs would include removing the roof along with insulation and protecting the inside of the building, Badalamenti told the board. Village officials said the theater generates a lot of business for local stores and restaurants.

Meeting attendees questioned whether rain would affect quiet performances, and if weather would damage the roof. Baldassano responded that neither would affect the new roof.
