Well, Long Island got some good news on Tuesday.

Of New York's 20 finalists for Wendy's High School Heisman Award program, two are from Long Island.

Paul Maline of Commack and Andrew Hess of Valley Stream South are now in the running to become state winners before the program moves on to the national phase.

On Nov. 5, one male and one female finalist from New York will be announced, pitting Nassau against Suffolk one more time as only one of Maline and Hess can be picked.

Maline plays baseball and football and Hess is on the baseball and volleyball teams.

The Wendy's High School Heisman Award honors students who excel in the field, in the classroom and in the community.
