A homeless man was transported to a hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a car near the Long Island Rail Road station in Hicksville on Monday, Nassau County police said.

The accident occurred on Newbridge Road, near the entrance to the access road for the LIRR parking lot, at 8:36 a.m. The victim was trying to cross Newbridge Road from west to east, police said.

Police said the man, 21, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with serious injuries to his head and body. A spokeswoman said he was in the intensive care unit in critical condition.

He was struck by a 2013 Toyota driven by a 62-year-old man from Cambria Heights, Queens.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but it is considered to be a noncriminal, police said.

The driver’s vehicle was safety tested and released back to him.
