Rosemarie Milowski, 69, of Mattituck, was walking around Love Lane with her grandson Thomas on Tuesday when we caught up with her.

How long have you lived here?
since 1965.

What brought you here?
My husband and the house he built.

What made you stay?
I love the place. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

What do you love about it?
The friendly shopkeepers. Anywhere you go you say 'Hi' and people say 'Hi' back.

Do you work in town?
I'm retired now. I was a kindergarten aid for 25 years at Our Lady of Mercy in Cutchogue.

What challenges does Mattituck face?
Well, I don't want to see any shopping centers. Maybe better transportation.

How would you define the character of the community?
Warm. Friendly. Helpful.
