PEPITZ BLANCHARD
DEMOCRATICBACKGROUND: Blanchard, 52, of Westbury, is a Democrat who is switching to the Republican Party and running on the Republican and Conservative lines. He works as a respiratory therapist for Nassau University Medical Center and for Apria Health Care in Plainview as a home therapist. Blanchard has served as an auxiliary policeman. Blanchard, who emigrated from Haiti in 1984, volunteers with Haitians in Brooklyn. He graduated from Molloy College in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy. He is married with four children.
ISSUES: Blanchard said he is committed to reducing drug and gun violence in the community. Blanchard said he would work to install after-school programs for troubled youth and generate more affordable housing complexes. Blanchard proposed mandating schools that pierce property tax caps to receive approval from the county legislature.
