Pete King's no Joe McCarthy

Rep. Peter King's (R-Seaford) views in the radicalization of the Muslim community might be a tad harsh ["What lies beneath," Opinion, Dec. 19], but he points out that their leaders have been uncooperative with federal investigators. As an independent, I for one think he's dead-on with his assessment.
Regarding King's ideas on holding hearings, the left is conjuring up the image of Sen. Joseph McCarthy, who ruined the lives of professional people back in the 1950s, calling them Communist sympathizers merely because they knew someone 30 or 40 years earlier who was leftist.
Trying to discredit Rep. King by comparing his accusations with McCarthy's lies will ultimately backfire. Indeed, we should thank Mr. King for his vigilance and sounding the alarm for all of us to be aware of the all-too-real threat within our nation.
