Photography show at Mills Pond House
WHAT Smithtown Township Arts Council's 33rd Annual Juried Photography Exhibition opens at Mills Pond House with a reception tomorrow for the fine-art photographers selected by Jennifer Schlesinger Hanson. The 20 photographers are from 10 states, half from New York. The show's theme is "Medium" -- how various photographic media enhance the artist's intention about his or her work. Some are quite exotic to amateurs -- wet plate collodion, vellum over copper leaf. First place was awarded to Greg Sand and Billy Renkl for their ambrotype with collage work titled "Void."
WHEN | WHERE Through May 4, Mills Pond House,
660 Rte. 25A, St. James. Reception: 2-4 p.m. tomorrow. Gallery hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, noon-4 p.m. weekends (closed April 12 and 18-20)
ADMISSION Free; 631-862-6575, stacarts.org
'GODSPELL'
WHAT It's no "Passion" play, but "Godspell" is certainly an apt show to bring back during Easter season. The Stephen Schwartz musical, which premiered in 1991 on Broadway and was last revived in 2000, sings out the parables of the gospel according to Matthew, laced with messages of love, generosity and faith -- all to an exuberant rock and roll score. "Day by Day" became a radio mainstay during the original run, quite apart from the musical. "Godspell" plays until the night before Easter, with no performances on Good Friday, April 18.
WHEN | WHERE Tonight and tomorrow night at 8, Sunday at 2 p.m. through April 19, CM Performing Arts Center, 931 Montauk Hwy., Oakdale
TICKETS $18-$27; 631-218-2810, cmpac.com
ZEVON TRIBUTE CONCERT
WHAT A benefit concert for WUSB/90.1 FM, the eclectic Stony Brook University radio station, brings a lineup of Long Island musicians together to pay tribute to the late Warren Zevon. ("Werewolves of London" are still howling.) Kerry Kearney, Claudia Jacobs, Russ Seeger, Bill March of Miles to Dayton, Pete Mancini of Butchers Blind and others collaborate to present "Keep Me in Your Heart," a concert of songs by Zevon (1947- 2003). Charlie Backfish, host of "Sunday Street," the morning folk program on WUSB and the Sunday acoustic concert series, will host. Paradiddle Records will record the concert for a live album release.
WHEN | WHERE Tomorrow night at 8, University Café, Stony Brook University
TICKETS $15 (must be 21 to attend, because the cafe serves alcohol); universitycafe.org
FOLK SERIES SHOW
WHAT Landmark on Main Street's Fabulous Folk Series has gone triplicate. WFUV DJ John Platt hosts an On Your Radar concert featuring three New York City artists he believes should be on your radar: Amy Speace, discovered by Judy Collins and signed to her Wildflower label; Brother Sun, featuring singer-songwriters Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway and Joe Jencks; and Martyn Joseph, a solo artist sometimes described as a cross between two Bruces -- Springsteen and Cockburn.
WHEN | WHERE Tomorrow night at 8, Jeane Rimsky Theater, Landmark on Main Street, Port Washington
TICKETS $42-$47; 516-767-6444, landmarkonmainstreet.org
