Hours after infielder Wilson Valdez won a 19-inning game as a pitcher, Cliff Lee's bat lifted the Phillies to another victory. It was a bizarre couple of days in Philadelphia.
Lee drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double and a single and worked eight solid innings yesterday in a 10-4 win over the Reds.
The night before, Valdez became the first player to start a game in the field and become the winning pitcher since Babe Ruth on Oct. 1, 1921. Valdez got a standing ovation when he batted in the second inning.
Lee (4-4) did it all after Wednesday night's marathon ended at 1:19 a.m., after 6 hours, 11 minutes and 600 pitches. Raul Ibañez hit a three-run homer for the Phillies, who took three of four from the Reds. Ibañez ended the 19-inning game with a sacrifice fly and is batting .361 since an 0-for-35 skid.
Marlins 1, Giants 0: Anibal Sanchez (4-1) threw a five-hitter and struck out eight as the Marlins completed a three-game sweep in San Francisco.

Red Sox 14, Tigers 1: Jacoby Ellsbury hit a three-run homer in a five-run second inning in Detroit. The Red Sox, who beat Cleveland, 14-2, Wednesday, scored at least 14 runs in back-to-back games for the first time since 1998. Alfredo Aceves (2-0) allowed a run in six innings in only the seventh start of his career. He has won his last 12 decisions since 2009, when he was a Yankees reliever.
Orioles 6, Royals 5: Vladimir Guerrero's single in the 12th gave the host Orioles their fifth straight win.
A's 4, Angels 3: Brett Anderson (3-4) tossed three-hit ball for eight scoreless innings, and Andy LaRoche drove in three runs for visiting Oakland
