Planting Fields to remember Robert Moses

The Planting Fields Foundation will unveil a summerlong exhibition to pioneer planner Robert Moses at Coe Hall on June 18.

“Robert Moses on Long Island: 1925-1975” will trace Moses’ transformation of the region through original maps, documents and artifacts, including those donated by the Levittown Historical Society, MTA Museum and New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Curators say the influence of Moses’ projects — from parks, parkways and bridges — will be displayed in context of the controversy they often generated, a result of Moses’ ability to largely avoid legislative and public approval processes.

The exhibit will be housed in a recently created archive room, part of the renovated “Hay Barn” at Planting Fields Arboretum. It will run daily, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., through Sept. 30. Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park and Coe Hall are at 1395 Planting Fields Rd., Oyster Bay.

Admission is $3.50 per person, with children under 12 and arboretum members free.
