A Williston Park podiatrist’s ongoing "Sock and Shoe Drive" is targeting certain types of donations as the temperatures rise.

Mary Carlson is accepting items at her office, located at 637 Willis Ave. While Carlson will take all new socks or new/gently used shoes, certain items help out more this time of year.

“With the change of season we’re looking for spring and summer items like sandals and sneakers,” Carlson said. “As people clean out their closets we want them to bring stuff they don’t want.”

Donations can be dropped off Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursdays from 3 p.m.-8 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Office will be closed this coming Saturday.)

According to Carlson her effort has produced more than 3,000 pairs of donated shoes for various area charities.
