Special Olympics athletes will join North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman and state Assemb. Michelle Schimel (D-Great Neck) this Saturday to brave the waters of Hempstead Harbor for the eighth annual Polar Plunge.
The Freezin’ for a Reason festival, a benefit for the Special Olympics, is scheduled to begin at noon at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. Registration is from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Entertainment will include face-painting for children, hot cocoa and a Nassau County Police Department display.
Kaiman said, “Besides being a great event to socialize with family, friends and neighbors and engage in friendly and fun rivalry, the annual Polar Plunge gives everyone the opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause.”
