Police: Massapequa man dies in crash

A Massapequa man died early Saturday after the car he was driving struck a signpost and tree in Lynbrook, police said.

According to Nassau County Fourth Squad detectives, Robert A. Dearing, 25, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala southbound on Ocean Avenue when he hit the signpost, then a tree at the intersection of Ruth Place. Dearing was pronounced dead at 4:43 a.m. at the scene of the accident, police said.

The victim's vehicle was impounded for safety testing, police said, and the investigation is ongoing.
