A man who was swinging a chain at individuals on a Manhattan street Tuesday night was shot by a New York City officer and seriously injured, police said.

The man, who was swinging the chain at 103rd Street and Third Avenue, struck at least one person, police said, before he was shot once by the NYPD officer.

The person who was hit with the chain was not seriously injured, police said, and the officer was not injured.

No information was immediately available from police Tuesday night concerning the identity of the man who was shot.
