Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has announced special training for police officers to learn new strategies for enforcement of road safety that will help advance his Walk Safe Nassau County Program.

“Every day we look for new ways to educate our residents and County employees to ensure Nassau County’s streets are among the safest in the nation for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers,” Mangano said in a statement.

The training will be held today at the Nassau County Public Safety Center in Westbury. More than 55 officers from the county police department and village and city police departments will take part. The training will review enforcement of the rule on motorists yielding to pedestrians and bicyclists as well as enforcement of pedestrians using proper locations to cross streets.

In addition to helping educate officers, Nassau County’s Traffic Safety Division will use this training as a basis for grants to help roadways safety enforcement and education.
