As Hurricane Irene roared northward from the Bahamas on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said it would pass over Long Island some time Sunday or Monday, but it wasn't certain what the storm's impact would be.

The National Hurricane Center projects Irene will pass over the South Fork between 8 a.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, meteorologist Joe Pollina said.
