A week to the day after Shannan Gilbert's remains were recovered in Oak Beach, her family is requesting that the federal government take over the investigation of her death and the Long Island serial killings.
The family on Tuesday requested the FBI take over the investigation from the Suffolk County Police Department and asked the agency to investigate Suffolk police for a possible civil rights violation against Gilbert, claiming the department did not respond properly to a 911 call on the night the Jersey City woman, 24, disappeared.
Do you think the probe should be handed over to the FBI?
