Pool-safety inspections available in Oyster Bay
In an effort to reduce backyard-drowning incidents, the Town of Oyster Bay has created a new pool-safety inspection program free to residents.
The inspections will check that in-ground and above-ground pools meet regulations for fencing, ladders, covers and filters.
All town residents are eligible; however, if residents do not currently have a pool permit from the town, they will be asked to apply for one at the time of inspection.

“While backyard pools are a great source of enjoyment, pool owners should be aware of the responsibilities they have for ensuring the safety of everyone, especially children,” said Town Supervisor John Venditto.
In addition to required safety measures, suggested safeguards include installing a self-locking, self-closing fence with vertical bars no more than 4 inches apart, protecting poolside electrical outlets with ground-fault circuit interrupters and storing pool chemicals away from flammable items.
