A Port Jefferson Station man was arrested not long after he held up a Smithtown bank Thursday, Nassau police said.

Maximilian Beres, 29, of Port Jefferson Station, took off with cash from the New York Community Bank on Nesconset Highway about 1:45 p.m. and dashed to his nearby vehicle, police said.

But Fourth Precinct Police Officer James Tobin spotted the getaway vehicle, pulled it over and arrested Beres, police said.

Beres was charged with first-degree robbery and held for arraignment Friday
