While they don’t know yet the final form of next year’s budget, the Port Jefferson village trustees know the budget likely will need to exceed the state tax cap.
On Monday, the village board voted unanimously to pierce the state’s 2 percent tax cap, even while the Port Jefferson budget is being completed.
“There’s no way to pass the budget without piercing the tax cap,” Mayor Margot Garant said.
The board will hold a public hearing on the budget at the next meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. April 15 at Village Hall.
