Port Washington Library budget passes 508-85; children's library in upgrade plans

Voters passed the Port Washington Library budget by a large margin last week, and the incumbent trustee and a challenger won two board of trustee seats.
The incumbent, Thomas Donoghue, won a fourth term, with 451 votes. A challenger, Michael Krevor, was elected with 367 votes. The third candidate, Susan J. Miller, lost with 288 votes.
The budget, which passed 508-85 in the vote last Tuesday, represents a 1.95 percent increase in expenditures over last year, said Nancy Curtin, the library’s director.
Curtin said the library is planning to upgrade its facilities: a new children’s library is in the works, and it might add a media room, with film, photo, and music editing software.
Recently, the library began expanding its digital offerings, allowing residents to rent Nooks pre-loaded with bestsellers and download books from the library’s website.
