The Port Washington Library has received a $300,000 donation from a Port Washington couple.

The donation, to the library’s foundation, comes from Ambassador Arnold Saltzman and his wife, Joan Saltzman, both longtime residents.

The couple made the donation to further the library’s community services, such as language and computer classes and career counseling, according to a statement.

“Their genuine dedication to outreach efforts will help the Port Washington Public Library continue to support those most in need in the community,” library director Nancy Curtin said in a statement.

Arnold Saltzman has served under five presidents in a variety of diplomatic and economic assignments and is a trustee of Adelphi and Hofstra universities. Joan Saltzman has served on state and county mental health boards, in addition to other pursuits.

There will be a reception at the library Thursday night to honor the couple.
