Possible Roslyn Heights park district to be discussed at meeting

A public hearing on whether the Town of North Hempstead should create a park district around a country club in Roslyn Heights will take place next month.
The town board voted at a short, special meeting on Tuesday to continue the public hearing on the creation of the “Levitt Park at Roslyn Heights” park district to Dec. 5.
The park district would cover 727 homes and eight nonresidential plots in and around the Roslyn Country Club development.
Town Attorney John Riordan said the plan was slightly amended to exclude three homes that should not have been included in the district, and include eight residents that should have been included.
Councilman Thomas Dwyer said the continuance was necessary because the community had been hit hard by power outages and other damage during superstorm Sandy.
“We were not able to communicate with them that these hearings were going on,” Dwyer said.
