Potholes, potholes, potholes ["Better keep an eye on your hubcaps," Editorial, Feb. 9]. It's the same story every winter. Broken axles, bent rims, flat tires and a good deal of swearing. And that doesn't take into account the number of accidents that have resulted from cars attempting to avoid these mini craters.

Every technology in transporting people more safely has moved forward in the last 50 years, except the ability to create a road surface that doesn't crumple under the onset of cold weather. Could it be that the asphalt companies have no interest in creating a better product? Something needs to be done to bring our road infrastructure into the 21st century.
