The principal of John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore, Lorraine Poppe, took the stand today in the trial against former 2nd Deputy Nassau Police Commissioner William Flanagan.

Flanagan is accused of using his position to keep a student from being arrested at the behest of the student’s father, a wealthy benefactor of the Nassau County Police Department.

The case stems from 2009, when then-student Zachary Parker was accused of stealing $10,000 in computer equipment from the school.

On the stand, Poppe testified that she signed a statement that she wanted Parker arrested and had never retracted that request. She says that despite her numerous requests to have Parker arrested, she was stonewalled by Flanagan.

Flanagan is facing conspiracy and misconduct charges.
