Program to collect unused medications

Residents can safely dispose of expired or unused medications during two events of the “Shed the Meds” program Saturday.
State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is sponsoring the program from 9 a.m. to noon at two drop-off locations:
* Bellmore Train Station parking lot, on the northwest corner of Sunrise Highway and Centre Avenue in Bellmore.
* Amityville Village Hall, on 21 Ireland Place in Amityville.
Residents who wish to participate can simply drive up, drop off their old or unused medications, and drive away. All collected medication will be disposed of by officers from the Nassau County Police Department and the Amityville Police Department, who will be supervising the program, officials said.
“‘Shed the Meds’ allows residents to quickly, easily, and safely dispose of medications and prevent them from harming others or polluting the environment,” Fuschillo said in a statement.
