Propositions for some Long Island towns and villages
Village of Hempstead
The referendum, if approved, would increase the village's contribution to the Hempstead Fire Department's Service Award Program from $200,000 to $250,000. With this, the fire department would lower its minimum age to join from 19 to 18.
City of Glen Cove
The referendum would extend the term of office for the Glen Cove mayor and City Council members from two to four years.
Town of Brookhaven
Prop 1: Limits the amount of town debt to 15 percent of expenditures or revenues, whichever is less, and requires the town board to find equivalent cuts to new spending projects added during the fiscal year after a budget is adopted.
Prop 2: Limits property tax rate increases to no more than 4 percent over the previous year.
Prop 3: Enacts a townwide spending cap of an amount no more than the sum of the three-year rates of revenue and population growth.
Town of Shelter Island
Prop 1: The referendum would extend the highway superintendent's term from two years to four.
Prop 2: The referendum would extend the town supervisor's term from two years to four.
