Last week, the Giants' offense saw punishments for getting penalties. Jermaine Eluemunor and Tyrone Tracy were pulled out of play Thursday after pre-snap penalties. They eventually returned to action.

The defense did push-ups Saturday after practice, but it wasn't clear why. On Monday, it was revealed as a punishment for penalties after the defense had too many for defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson's liking.

"We do push-ups with penalties. We had four, but we've got to work out a system here," defensive tackle DJ Reader told reporters. "I think we get a turnover to get those 10 back. We've got 10 every penalty, so we had four today."

Discipline has been a talking point early in camp. The Giants can't avoid penalties, but they're learning how to limit them — or else they pay for it.

Coach John Harbaugh was fine with Wilson's rules but quibbled a bit with how the defense did their pushups.

"They don't go all the way up," Harbaugh told reporters. "You go all the way down, touch your chest on the ground, and you go all the way up and extend. But they kind of do this little, short push-up thing. "
