R.E.M.'s "We All Go Back to Where We Belong" (Warner Bros.) is a somber affair, even before it starts as the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' final single. The lush ballad feels like the end of an era, with Michael Stipe's melancholy vocals and Mike Mills' ever-pretty harmonies on top of a string-and-horns arrangement that could have come from Burt Bacharach in the early '60s. More of a curtain call than a musical statement, it signifies that it's the end of the world as we know it, etc.
