The Town of North Hempstead's 311 Call Center logged a record 167,472 service requests in 2010, an increase of nearly 55,000 calls over 2009’s total.

The 311 service, started by North Hempstead in 2004, allows residents to request such services as pothole repair and tree removal; it's also a clearinghouse for reaching town departments. The town noted in a recent news release that the system helps town employees better manage their workloads.

The service, previously available only on weekdays, now is staffed on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
