I read the recent article (with skepticism) claiming that red-light cameras save lives, and your editorial endorsing the same ["Add red-light cameras to save lives," Feb. 3].

In all my years of driving, I've never seen someone just blow through a red light. Those who do are most likely impaired or asleep at the wheel. Knowledge that there may be a camera is extremely unlikely to be a factor.

I think the red-light cameras are predominantly a money-maker. I'm appalled that Newsday's editorial offered no additional information while supporting more cameras as a revenue enhancer. It's the government redistributing wealth from our pockets to theirs.
