Red Sox home woes continue in loss to Orioles

MOST STRIKEOUTS BY A BATTER IN A SEASON: 223
MARK REYNOLDS, DIAMONDBACKS, 2009
Reynolds's 223 whiffs in 2009 were enough to make him as the single-season strikeout king. He broke his own record of 203, which he had set in 2008.
With 578 at-bats in '09, Reynolds struck out nearly 40 percent of the time. Sheesh. He still managed to hit 44 home runs and drive in 102 runs with a .349 on-base percentage. He came close to his own record again in 2010, striking out 211 times in 499 ABs (a 42.3 percent strikeout rate!) Credit: AP
Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer and Jason Hammel continued his strong start this season as the Baltimore Orioles extended Boston's home struggles with an 8-2 win over the Red Sox yesterday.
Adam Jones added a two-run homer for Baltimore, which won its fourth straight and 10th in the last 12 games.
Hammel (4-1, 2.09 ERA) lasted 62/3 innings, limiting the Red Sox to a pair of first-inning hits until he gave up two runs in the seventh.
Adrian Gonzalez had three hits for Boston, which lost its fourth straight and has dropped nine of 10 games at Fenway Park.
Rangers 5, Indians 2: Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning for visiting Texas. Joe Nathan worked the 11th for his seventh save in eight tries.

Nationals 7, Phillies 1: Gio Gonzalez (3-1, 1.72 ERA in six starts) allowed one run in seven innings and host Washington hit a season-high three home runs. Jayson Werth hit a three-run drive for the Nationals, who have won seven straight over the Phillies.

Dodgers 5, Cubs 1: Chris Capuano threw seven shutout innings and drove in two runs to lead visiting Los Angeles. Former Met Capuano (4-0, 2.21 ERA) held Chicago to three hits and extended his scoreless-innings streak to 182/3.
Giants 5, Brewers 2: Madison Bumgarner shut down Milwaukee for seven innings and added an RBI double to win his eighth straight home start as San Francisco snapped a four-game skid.
Astros 8, Cardinals 2: Chris Johnson hit his first career grand slam and Bud Norris limited the Cardinals to one unearned run and three hits in six innings as host Houston won its fifth straight for the first time since late 2010.
