Red Sox win 7th straight
Clay Buchholz allowed three hits in seven innings and Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-for-5 with three runs scored as visiting Boston beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-1, on Friday night, the Red Sox's seventh straight win, matching their season high. AL RBI leader Adrian Gonzalez drove in a run with a fifth-inning single that gave the first baseman seven consecutive games with at least one run driven in. He drove in his 57th run with a double in the ninth that made it 5-1.
Mariners 3, Tigers 2: Rookie Carlos Peguero homered and tripled starting in place of Ichiro Suzuki in rightfield as Seattle beat host Detroit. The struggling Suzuki, whose average has dropped to .252, had played in 255 consecutive games before given the night off.
Orioles 7, Rays 0: Nick Markakis broke a power slump with a grand slam and a two-run double and Jake Arrieta took a no-hitter into the sixth for host Baltimore.
Rangers 9, Twins 3: Michael Young had three hits and three RBIs and Adrian Beltre added two hits and two RBIs for visiting Texas. The Rangers sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the second inning to snap an eight-game road losing streak against the Twins.
Phillies 7, Cubs 5: Roy Halladay tossed seven masterful innings to become the first nine-game winner in the majors and Placido Polanco hit a grand slam for host Philadelphia. Halladay (9-3) gave up six hits and struck out nine to earn his first win against the Cubs.
Braves 11, Astros 4: Freddie Freeman and Alex Gonzalez homered back-to-back during a four-run third in Houston as the Braves won their fourth straight. Chipper Jones and Eric Hinske also homered for Atlanta, which tied its season high for runs.
Brewers 8, Cardinals 0: Ryan Braun and Corey Hart homered and Chris Narveson threw eight innings for host Milwaukee.
