3-year-old girl dies in backyard swimming pool

A 3-year-old girl is dead and her 4-year-old brother is in critical condition after they were pulled from a backyard swimming pool in the Buffalo area.

The Buffalo News reports that the two children were unresponsive when they were pulled from the above-ground pool in Lancaster on Friday.

The children were rushed to St. Joseph Hospital in Cheektowaga.

The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Her brother was transported to Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. He is listed in critical condition.

The children's names were not immediately released.
