There won't be any late-night Slurpee runs in one northern New Jersey community.
An ordinance approved this week in River Edge will force a new 7-Eleven to close nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The convenience store chain normally operates 24 hours a day. It expects the River Edge store to open in a month.
The Bergen Record reports Wednesday more than 500 residents signed a petition supporting the ordinance. They fear light and sound pollution.
A lawyer for 7-Eleven called the restriction arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable. A lawyer for the property's landlord said they expect to take legal action against the borough.
Mayor Sandy Moscaritolo says the ordinance applying to businesses on parts of Kinderkamack Road and Main Street help preserve the quality of life in surrounding neighborhoods.
